DERRY CITY captain, Ryan McBride is mulling over his options after receiving an offer of a new contract from the Brandywell club this afternoon.

The out-of-contract Brandywell lad has alternative options having also received an attractive offer from Pat Fenlon’s Shamrock Rovers this week.

However, the 25 year-old won’t rush into making up his mind and will delay any decision over his future until he returns from a holiday next week.

Derry City Chairman, Philip O’Doherty met with the player this week and it’s understood the ‘Candy Stripes’ are not prepared to let their skipper escape from their clutches without a battle.

And today the club offered the defender a new contract to ward off interest from Rovers and other top League of Ireland clubs who have since made approaches.

Rovers, who finished third in the Premier Division this season, could hold the upper hand as they can offer European football next season.

However, it’s understood the player would prefer to stay at his hometown club providing the Board of Directors were prepared to offer improved terms.

McBride publicly urged the Brandywell Board to offer both himself and other key players a new contract as soon as possible and the powers that be at the Lone Moor Road were quick to act.

It remains to be seen, however, where the bustling centre half will be plying his trade next season.

I just want to give Derry a chance to offer me something because I’ve been here a long time and it’s my hometown club.
