Dunne told to put a sock in it this week

Institute manager Kevin Deery has warned his players that they must have the right gear on if they want to play for his side.

The news comes after Jamie Dunne, took a full nine minutes to come on as a substitute at Moyola Park, on Saturday, because the winger had put white socks over his Institute sky blue socks and because of it he wasn’t allowed on the pitch until they were either taped up or removed.

After he eventually got the all clear to enter the pitch the Waterside men had conceded goal, but fortunately for the talented left winger Stute ran out comfortable winners.

Nevertheless boss Deery wasn’t happy with the episode and is telling his players to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

“The boys will be addressed this week, whatever kit we are wearing they need to have the same colour socks underneath,” he insisted.

“How they get them I don’t know, but they are going to have to get them.
“Look Jamie taped up the bottom of his socks and the official was still not happy with a tiny bit of white showing, but it was sorted and that’s the end of it.”

On the field Deery knows his side have a big test at Warrenpoint Town in their league opener, this weekend, but he believes in his players.

“We have a really tough start to the season and while at Moyola we weren’t at our best, we got a really good work out,” he said.

“It was warm day and that meant it was going to test the players bodies, that’s what we needed and we look forward to the next two leagues games.

“It will be a tremendous start to the season if we can get a win away at Warrenpoint this weekend, which we’ll be aiming to try and do.

“It’s our longest journey but the optimism is good, so we’ll be going to Warrenpoint to have a real go at them. That’s the way we play; we play on the front foot, we ask questions of teams and the lads are ready for it.”
