Goalkeeper Doherty named as new captain of Derry City
Derry City goalkeeper Gerard Doherty has been unveiled as the club's new captain.
The 35-year-old stopper takes over the role following the tragic death of Ryan McBride earlier this month.
Doherty will lead the Candy Stripes for the first time when they host Bray Wanderers at Maginn Park on Friday night (19:45), in what’s sure to be an emotional occasion for all connected to the club.
Kenny Shiels’ side go into the match hoping to preserve their 100 per cent record in the SSE Airtricity Premier Division, having had recent games against Limerick and Galway United postponed.
