Institute continued their impressive start to the season as they made it back to back victories at Drumahoe, this time seeing off PSNI.

Goals right at the start and the end of the first half from Stephen Curry and Gareth Brown ensured they ran out comfortable winners, with Stephen O’Donnell and Sean McCarron putting the icing on top of the cake.

Kevin Deery’s young side once again played some good football, while they looked solid at the back and in truth should have won by a bigger margin.

The victory moves Stute into second spot in the Championship table, just two points behind leaders Larne.

The Waterside men got off to the perfect start as they took the lead after just 20 seconds as Brown showed neat skill to leave Scott McCrory, down the left touch line before picking out Curry, who side footed home from close range.

The hmoe side were inches away from doubling their lead on eight minutes but Niall Grace’s volley from 10 yards, which was well hit, was kept out by PSNI keeper David Harrison and Mark McCullagh’s blocked Michael McCrudden’s follow-up shot.

PSNI had a super chance to level things when striker Lukasz Adamczyk got in behind the home side’s defence, but his tame strike was saved by Stute keeper Martin Gallagher.

On 42 minutes Harrison made a great save, diving at full stretch to somehow keep out Aaron Harkin’s 20 yard left footed pile driver.

Institute doubled their lead right on the stroke of half-time as Grace’s flick-on found Brown, who again easily skipped away from his marker this time Adam Wright was his victim inside the box, before he slotted the ball home past Harrison.

The game was over as a contest on 50 minutes as Kevin Deery’s side added a third after Aaron Harkin’s right wing free-kick found O’Donnell and he turned home his third goal of the season.

Minutes later Ciaron Harkin’s right wing centre found an unmarked Grace, but the big midfielder headed wide from close range.

Substitute McCarron managed to get himself on the score-sheet on 75 minutes; he made no mistake with his left foot, blasting home past Harrison, after creating some space on the edge of the box when he left two defenders for dead.
On 85 minutes Gallagher had to make a very good save, diving low to his left to keep out Paul McDowell’s snap-shot.
