Goals from Shane McGinty (2) and Gareth Brown ensured Kevin Deery’s side made it five wins a row.

In fact but for some world class saves from Distillery goalkeeper Gerard McErlean the score-line would have been a lot harsher on the visitors, as the Waterside men dominated proceedings throughout, without really hitting top form.

The home side were inches away from taken the lead on 10 minutes after Jamie McIntyre’s right wing centre found McGinty, but his close range header was superbly saved at point blank range by Distillery’s McErlean.

Institute had another glorious chance on 23 minutes this time Brown fired well over from 10 yards, after Sean Roddy’s cut-back’s had picked out the striker.

The Drumahoe out-fit had strong claims for a penalty just before the half-hour mark when Michael McCrudden was fouled inside the penalty box after a goalmouth scramble, but referee McGrath waved play on.

McErlean was called into action again on 36 minutes this time he easily gathered Roddy’s curling 25 yard free-kick.

The deadlock was finally broken on 44 minutes when McIntyre’s super right wing cross found McGinty at the back post and his perfectly guided header back across McErlean, found the net.

Right on the stroke half-time Distillery were gifted a glorious chance when Ciaron Harkin’s miss placed header fell perfectly to Niall Atkinson inside the box, but his tame effort from eight yards was straight at Stute goalkeeper Martin Gallagher.

Institute doubled their lead on 48 minutes after another goalmouth scramble, which saw McErlean do superbly well to keep out Brown and McIntyre’s effort’s, before making another point blank range stop to deny McGinty, but last month’s Championship Player of the Month, made no mistake with his follow up, firing hit into the net.

McErlean made another tremendous double save on 50 minutes when at full stretch he tipped Brown’s header onto the bar, before getting up and somehow kept out McCrudden’s close range follow-up header.
