PHOENIX Swifts secured maximum points without kicking a ball in last weekend’s Saturday Morning League Premier Division programme, their opponents, Clooney, suspended from playing due to the non-payment of a fine.
And while Phoenix were awarded the three points, Clooney have been warned that the outstanding fine must be paid by today (Tuesday) or they will lose the points from next Saturday’s outing.
Seven of the 10 games kicked-off and in addition to the Phoenix Swifts v. Clooney tie, the Championship game involving Strabane Athletic and Tamnaherin Celtic was called off very late as a heavy fog hung over the pitch and the referee had no option but to postpone the fixture.
Meanwhile, in the First Division the game between Culmore and Greysteel was not played as Greysteel failed to field and Culmore have been awarded the points. Greysteel now face a £50 fine plus expenses.
In the action that did take place Brandywell Celtic claimed their place in the quarter-finals of the Blue Riband Cup with a good win over Clifton Villa.
In the Premier Division Foyle Harps defeated Drumahoe while Westbank dropped two points having been held by Creggan Swifts,
In the Championship Newton Heath overcame the challenge of Sion Swifts while Olympic defeated Foyle Athletic.
In the First Division, Oxford United and Collegians shared the spoils while Art Deco had to come from behind to defeat Oakleaf Celtic, a result which keeps their title hopes alive.
