The Banagher man, who was an unused sub in the Republic of Ireland’s 4-0 friendly win over Oman on Wednesday night at the Aviva Stadium, signed a two-year deal for the Elland Road club for an undisclosed fee.

O’Kane played 118 games for the Cherries, helping them to two promotions after joining in 2012.

The 26-year-old played in 16 Premier League games last season but failed to make a first-team appearance this term.

He has won four senior international caps, but was not included in Martin O’Neill’s squad for Euro 2016. He’s hopeful the move to the Championship and regular football will enhance his international prospects.

And commenting on his Twitter account, O’Kane thanked Bournemouth AFC for an ‘amazing journey’ as he looks forward to a new chapter in his club career.

“Thanks for the warm welcome @LUFC [sic], delighted to have signed for such a huge club. I can’t wait to get on the pitch, Marching On Together!”

“Thank you to the fans, the players and the staff @afcbournemouth [sic] for everything. We’ve had an amazing journey together. I wish you good luck!”

Leeds were linked with a move for O’Kane earlier this summer and returned with a new bid for the midfielder as the hours ticked down towards Wednesday’s transfer deadline which Bournemouth accepted having secured the capture of Arsenal and England midfielder, Jack Wilshire on loan.
