Ollie Mullen’s men defeated First Choice Soccer 1-0 at Parker Avenue, Portrush, yesterday, but they were made to sweat for a place in the semi-finals.

American side Strikers could only manage a 0-0 draw with Middlesbrough, leaving them and Londonderry on the same goals difference and goals scored.

But Tuesday’s 4-1 win over Colina ensured it was Londonderry who kept their dream on the top prize alive and they now face Sheffield United, at Coleraine Showgrounds tonight (KO 7pm).

Kian McGarvey bagged the only goal of the game on Wednesday and there were wild celebrations when they discovered they had done enough to qualify for the last four.

“We are delighted and proud of this achievement,” said Londonderry chairman Glen Rankin.

“Our best ever finish was fifth overall, so to finish in the top four is unbelievable. The players should be proud.”
