Swedish defender Armin Aganovic has left Derry City

KENNY Shiels claims it was difficult for Swedish defender, Armin Aganovich to meet the '˜huge demands' expected from Derry City players following the player's release yesterday afternoon.

The club announced the 23 year-old former Galway United centre-half had left by mutual consent having made just two appearances for the Candy Stripes this season.

He scored on his debut in the defeat at Waterford on the opening day of the season before his second and final run out in Sligo last month where he was criticised for his part in the dismal defeat to the Bit O’Red.

And despite Aganovich’s departure, the Derry boss insists he’s content with his defensive options as he prepares for Friday’s visit of St Patrick’s Athletic to Brandywell.

Experienced ex-Sligo defender, Gavin Peers is nearing a return to action while Eoin Toal has been in fine form of late.

“Sometimes I put demands on players and the culture is different for him,” said Shiels. “There’s huge demands on players at Derry City to perform and it’s hard for players.

“He’s a very good player but it just hasn’t worked out for Armin and we wish him all the best.

“Eoin Toal has been fantastic so far this season and Gavin Peers is on his way back from injury now and isn’t far away.

“We also have Niall Logue in there too at centre half so we’re okay in that department I think.”

City begin a busy few days against St Pats at the Brandywell on Friday night (KO 7.45) before taking on Finn Harps in Ballybofey on Monday afternoon (KO 3pm) in the EA Sports Cup.
