Hughes Insurance, N. Ireland’s largest insurance provider is celebrating its second year of sponsoring the Hughes Insurance Foyle Cup by giving 30 “Derry Journal” readers a chance to win a Foyle Cup football – to get Derry youth teams playing football before the tournament kicks-off in July this year.
The tournament, now called the Hughes Insurance Foyle Cup, is one of the biggest youth football competitions in Europe, taking place in Derry City and the surrounding areas this summer.
The tournament is open to youth teams globally for age groups from Under-10 up to Under-19.
Organised by the Derry & District Youth Football Association, the Foyle Cup tourament has expanded from a mere 8 teams in 1992 to now over 200 teams set to compete in 2013 for one of the coveted Foyle Cup trophies.
The tournament’s reputation plus the fact that Derry is the UK City of Culture this year, has caught the attention of many big name teams such as Nottingham Forest, Norwich City, Aberdeen, Sheffield and Montpellier - with teams and scouts travelling from all over Europe to this summer’s event.
Brian McDowell, Head of Sales and Marketing at Hughes Insurance, said: “We believe Derry has always been a hotbed for footballing talent that deserves support and opportunities and we believe this giveaway is a good way of getting the young people of Derry playing football – warming them up for the tournament.
“As a local man who grew up in Derry, I’m incredibly proud to be part of the City of Culture line-up and to partner such a prestigious tournament. The passion for football in the region has always been second to none, and I’m looking forward to the big kick-off,” he added.
The Hughes Insurance Foyle Cup 2013 runs Monday, July 21st to Saturday, July 26th with 210 teams currently signed up to compete in this year’s tournament.
