It is difficult to explain the North West’s awful record in the all-Ireland cups over the past few years but whatever the cause, they need to find an answer soon after another miserable first round showing on Saturday.
Fox Lodge and Strabane live to fight another day after their matches against County Galway and Railway Union respectively fell victim to the weather, while Bready had already moved into the second round after their opponents, Terenure, withdrew from the competition during the week.
Of the seven left however only Ardmore were left standing on Saturday evening after a thoroughly disappointing day for local clubs.
The picture was no brighter in the National Cup- the all-Ireland equivalent for second tier sides- five went into battle in this one with Newbuildings the only winner.
Drummond, Creevedonnell and Burndennett all get another chance however after the elements washed away any chance of play in their first round ties.
