Betty, Geraldine do ‘double’ at Prehen

The pairing of Geraldine Crossan and Betty McBride recorded a ‘double’ at City of Derry this week when adding the annual Nellie Garrett Cup Foursomes Trophy to their Coronation Cup success.

However, before being declared winners on Tuesday last, the pair had to survive a break of tie with Lady Captain, Naoimh Quigg and Gerda Laird, both teams returning scores of 37 points.

Full results were - Tuesday, June 14th, Nellie Garrett Cup - 1, break of tie, Geraldine Crossan (9) and Betty McBride (17) 37 points; 2, Naoimh Quigg (2) and Gerda Laird (19) 37; 3, Pamela Rutherford (21) and Winnifred Black (16) 34.

Foyle Ladies

Results from Thursday, June 9th – 1, Sadie O’Kane (17) 37 points; 2, Denise Callan (22) 34; 3, Myra Gough (18) 30.

Congratulations to the Miele team who defeated City of Derry to progress to the second round where they will play Letterkenny.

The Junior Foursomes Team took two matches and is three holes up against Malone in their third round tie with the home leg to be played on June 24th.

Meanwhile, Mrs Avril Gallagher invites all lady members to play for her Lady President’s Rose Bowl plus her usual array of prizes tomorrow (Saturday). Their will be light refreshments served in Pitchers’ Restaurant at 10.30 a.m. followed by golf at 11.30 a.m.

North-West Ladies

Cecilia McCole recorded her first win of the season at North-West on Wednesday when defeating Niamh McGlynn on a tie-break following the weekly Ladies Branch competition.

Both players returned scores of 36 points and for newcomer, Niamh, the result also represented a personal milestone as she is expected to figure prominently in the winners’ enclosure over the season.

In third spot was Bernie Barr with 32 points.

Next week’s competition is Mr. Tom Crossan’s President’s Prizes to the the Ladies. The draw has been posted in the locker room.

Also next Wednesday the presentation of prizes won on June 1st, 8th and 15th will be presented at 8 p.m.

Tomorrow, ladies can play in the Sandwich Company Open Fourball Betterball (any combination) in aid of Multiple Sclerosis. Ring Gary for tee-times.

Greencastle Ladies

On Thursday last 41 lady members at Greencastle enjoyed glorious sunshine when playing in the Singles Stroke competition.

And Aoife O’Hare rolled back the years of time to show the skills which saw her selected for the Ulster Girls team not so long ago. A nett 62 left the large field trailing in her wake, as she won by the massive margin of six shots.

The 16 handicapper started off with five pars over the first six holes, but for good measure she also birdied the last hole on each nine. In fact she played the six par three holes in two under par.

Hilary McCloy (13) seems to return a good score every time she plays and this was no different with a nett 68.

Third place was filled by Betty Gallagher (12) who has been a model of consistency, her 69 included seven pars.

Redcastle Ladies

Stranorlar Ladies

Dolores Devanney, Anna Dillon and Stephanie Canning claimed the Threeball event staged on June 6th, the competition sponsored by Derryveagh Crystal.

There was a brilliant turn out on Saturday last for the Hospice Classic which was played in superb conditions. The winners, with a score of 108 points were - Martin McFadden, Ketith Hegarty, Emmett Burke and Shane Browne.

The Lady Captain’s outing will take place on Monday, June 27th at Strandhill, Co. Sligo and the sheet has been posted.

Letterkenny Ladies
