Oakleaf Amateur Boxing Club will host its first major tournament of the new year next Friday, January 15th in the Maldron Hotel.
The progressive Brandywell club will take on an Irish Select and have lined up 14 top quality contests featuring opposition from Antrim, Sligo, Donegal, Monaghan, Tyrone and of course boxers from Derry.
“We have some intriguing contests lined up, most notably Commonwealth Youth silver medallist Brett McGinty versus Jordan Myers of Sligo and this one should be a cracking contest,” said Club Chairman, Gerard McGilloway.
And Oakleaf favourite, Darren Quigley makes a welcome return to the ring as the Creggan man tackles the experienced Denis Lafferty of Raphoe ABC.
Newly crowned Ulster Senior light-heavyweight champion, Sean McGlinchey is also expected to feature on the bill with an opponent yet to be named.
All in all this should be a quality tournament to start the New Year off with a bang with a host of Ulster and Irish champions on view.
Admission is £6 and £4, payable at the door.
