Boys’ Home Internationals Bound For Ballyliffin’s Glashedy Links in 2016

THE year 2016 could well prove to be a significant a landmark year for Ireland’s most northerly golf course with the Irish Close Championship and the Boys’ Home Internationals set for the picturesque Inishowen links.

And while the Irish Close Championship was always been a target for the powers that be at Ballyliffin, the announcement by the R.&A last week, that the Boys’ Home Internationals would be played in Ireland in 2016, will prove to be a significant boost for the Inishowen Peninsula and the North-West area in general.

And the fact that Ballyliffin had already successfully hosted European Tour and Ladies’ European Tour events in the past proved to be a major plus factor.

Both competitions will be played on the club’s tough Glashedy Links in June and August in three years time.

The Boys Home Internationals is an under-18 team event with players representing England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland taking part.

Commenting on last week’s announcement, Ballyliffin Golf Club’s general manager, Mr. John Farren, said the Inishowen club and it’s membership were was delighted with the appointment.

“It’s always considered an honour to be asked to host prestigous golf tournaments by the sports’ governing body and we believe the facilities we have on offer at Ballyliffin are now recognised throughout Ireland and, indeed, Europe,” he said.

“We believe that our links courses are among the best in Ireland and we constantly strive to improve our facilities and attract more local, national and international visitors to sample what we have on offer,” added Mr. Farren.

“It’s no secret either that we try to showcase our golf courses and, indeed, the Inishowen area in general, internationally and we continue to hold that view that being asked to host high profile competitions can only lead to better things in the future,” he concluded.
