BUNCRANA’S popular Winter League, annually sponsored by Owen McDaid (Roe) Minibus & Taxi Hire, commences this weekend and all details have been posted on the Clubhouse Notice Board.

The Winter League will be the only competitive golf played over the next few months and players can enter on the day. The format will be four scores to count from six returns.

There will also be at least two Fridays available for players to return scores which eases the pressure on players to participate every weekend.

Meanwhile, congratulations to the pairing of Robert Doherty & Marian Simpson who defeated Brian Griffin & Evelyn Smith in the final of the club’s Mixed Greensomes Championship.

Qualifying for the Christmas Hamper has now commenced and the Christmas Hamper final will be played over Saturday and Sunday, December 8th and 9th.

The “Find the Joker” jackpot now stands at E1,260. Lines cost E2 each and the Committee would appreciate it if members would buy a line or even help with the sale of a card.

There is a new 2013 membership deal on offer - Gents pay E305 or Ladies pay E205 now and play golf until March, 2014 (17 months). The terms are a deposit up front and balance can be paid by instalments.

The next meeting of the Committee will take place on Tuesday next, October 2nd at 7.00 p.m. sharp and all committee members are requested to attend.

Club Captain, Mr. Daniel Lynch; President, Mr. Paul Eccles and Lady Captain, Mrs Marian Simpson, intend to organise a nine holes competition on Sunday week, October 7th at 3:00 p.m. the competition is for all past and present Captains, Presidents, and Lady Captains.

The idea behind the event is to recognise the contributions made by the various officials down the years whether they are members at present or not and it would be appreciated if as many as possible would attend the function.

Light refreshments will be served afterwards in the clubhouse and it will be a chance for past officials to meet the present officials.

Robin McClay (19) took the Silver Medal on 41 points, 22 of them on the back nine where he had two birdies and a blank for good measure.

Ernie Heywood (scr.) had another superb score, this time a 67 gross (34 and 33) for 40 points and duly collected the bronze medal
