CIARAN O’Doherty claimed the annual Alan Harkens Memorial Trophy, in aid Of Marie Curie Cancer Care, at Foyle on Saturday last, the 12 handicapper returning a superb score of 43 points.
With 110 members taking to the pristine Ballyarnett fairways on what proved an excellent day for golf, Ciaran kept his head to finish one point clear of the chasing pack.
However, the real winner on the day was the popular charity which received a cheque amounting to £550.

Friday Open Stableford results - 1, Gerry Harkin (12) 39 points; 2, Stephen Doherty (14) 38.

Over-50’s confined stableford - break of tie, 1, Liam McCafferty (19) 38 points; 2, David Hetherington (19) 38.

Liam’s victory consolidates his leading position as he continues to chase the “Golfer of the Year” title.
In the P.G.A. Tankard Qualifier, Colm Norris (11) took top honours when posting a score of 40 points, one clear of runner-up, Damien McColgan (14).
Colm will now go on to represnt the club in the final which will be staged at Lurgan Golf Club on October 6th next.
Meanwhile, Foyle’s Barton Shield team of Damien McKenna, Donal Hasson, Stephen Martin and Paul McGuigan travelled to Portsalon on Sunday last for the matchplay stages and the local club recorded two two fine victories.
In the morning match, the Ballyarnett club defeated Omagh by three holes before securing an excellent eight holes victory over a fancied Strabane in the second round match in the afternoon.
Therefore, Foyle have now qualified for the last 16 of this very prestigious senior GUI competition and they will face Portstewart in the next round, again at Portsalon, on July 17th next.

Liam Kerr won last week’s Tuesday Open “Meal Deal” at Lisfannon, the 18 handicapper returning 40 points to pip runner-up, Stephen Fitzpatrick (15) by one point.

The seventh outing of the Donegal Seniors Alliance was held at Strabane on Wednesday last and local knowledge was clearly evident with the top six prizewinners all members of the Ballycolman club.

Radisson Roe Park
Ronnie Millican won last week’s Thursday Club Stroke competition at Roe Park with a nett 63 with members of the Ferris family securing second and third spots one point adrift, as Matthew and Leigh took the respective finishes.
In last Saturday’s Monthly Medal Alan Rankin followed up on his win in the Limavady Grammar School Open, when returning ang ang an impressive nett 64, two shots clear of Carwyn Guy with Marty McVeigh in third, bot on 66.
Conor Kelly produced a consistent round to win the gross prize with a 73.
The Barton Shield team lost out to City of Derry at Portsalon last weekend.
Next weekend sees the Roe Park Qualifier run over the Thursday and the Saturday, with a stableford on offer this Sunday.
