A break of tie was called upon to decide the top prizes in the City of Derry Building Society Open Stableford, which was staged at Foyle on Saturday last.

The event, which enjoyed an excellent entry, saw competitors taking full advantage of the fine conditions with the Ballyarnett course in pristine condition.

The top score of the day, 40 points, was returned by three competitors with the home club’s member of their successful Pierce Purcell team, Raymond Tracey, taking top honours thanks to a superior back nine.

The C.S.S. was 35 pts.

Foyle Friday Open Stableford - 1, Paul O’ Brien (17) 41 points; 2, Gary Etherson (9) 40; 3, break of tie, Declan Doherty (14), Srabane, 39; visitor, Jarlath Clarke (10), City of Derry, 38.

End of Summer nine holes Scramble results - 1, Stephen Martin, Jim McGrotty, Mark Doherty, 28 nett; 2, Laurence Powell, Kieran Duffy, Cormac Cassidy and Leo Young, 28.3; 3, Martin Campbell, Damien McColgan, Kevin McBride, Brenda Cooke, 28.7.

Wednesday, August 22nd, Club Stableford results - 1, Alan Manning (14) 43 points; 2, Raymond Keys (21) 38.

Notes From North-West

Stephen MacLochlainn (9) took top honours in the Open ‘Meal Deal’ on August 21st, his score of 39 points giving a two point cushion over the chasing pack.

Visitors Nigel Craig and Richard Dunlop claimed second and third prizes with 37 points and 36 pts. respectively.

Meanwhile, in the Thursday Open at Lisfannon, visitor, John Gormley, took top honours when returning the top score of 44 points.

Result - 1, John Gormley, 44 points; 2, break of tie, John McGinley (16) 37; 3, George McDaid (16) 37; visitor, Pat Conway, 34.
