Curtain to fall on Foyle’s Open Week tomorrow

Foyle Golf Club’s Open Week continued to enjoy glorious sunshine on Sunday last for the Paul’s Butchers Open Stableford.

The superb conditions also continued to attract large numbers of competitors.

With the sun on his back, Frank Doherty took top honors with a well compiled score of 43 points, with a member of the Ballyarnett club’s successful Fred Daly squad, Dylan Nixon, finishing second with an impressive 42 points.

Full results were - 1, Frank Doherty (12) 43 points; 2, Dylan Nixon (12) 42; 3, Gerard Toland (22) 39; gross, Laurence Powell, 35; back nine, break of tie, Ryan Gillen (19) 21; juvenile, Jack Kennedy (19) 43.

Ladies nine holes competition - 1, Maureen Louden, 17 points.

The C.S.S. was 36 pts.

Dale Sets New Record SCORE at Buncrana

Playing in the Duffy’s Pharmacy Open Stableford at Buncrana last weekend, Dale Kerr wrote his name into the history books with a sensational record breaking score.

The 15 handicapper played the best golf of his career to post a two under par gross round which equates to 53 points leaving the rest of the field in his wake - the best nett score ever recorded at Buncrana.

Full results were - 1, Dale Kerr (15) 53 points; 2, Michael McHugh (13) 46; gross, Stephen McHugh (3) 62; 3, Darren Doherty (13) 44; best day, Mark Porter (Sat) (19) 41; back nine, Conor Mc Glynn (8) 22; visitor, Michael O’ Brien (13) 36 .

The draw for the club pairs match play has been posted on the clubhouse notice board along with all details regarding dates and times. It is up to each pairing to arrange their respective matches and the group stages have to be finalised by August 2nd with no exceptions. Meanwhile, this weekend’s competition will be played over tomorrow (Sat.) and Sunday, July 14th and it is the Buncrana Music Festival Open Stableford.

A timesheet is in operation with tee-times available on a Sunday morning.

Buncrana Golf Club’s annual Open Week Calendar will commence Monday next, July 15th & Tuesday, July 16th with a “Teams of Three” Open (any combination).

On Wednesday, July 17th and Thursday, July 18th, a Teams of Four Open Scramble is on offer (any combination).

The annual Liam Doherty (Toland) Memorial Open Stableford will take place over Friday 19th, Saturday 20th and Sunday, July 21st and there will be a nine holes Open Stableford for ladies on Friday, July 19th.

The “Find the Joker” fund- raising effort is up and running again with the jackpotnow att E545. lines cost E2 each and the Committee would appreciate it if members would buy a line or even help with the sale of a card.

Persons paying their annual subscriptions by instalment are reminded that today ( Friday), July 12th, is the deadline for payments.

Anyone not fully paid up after this date will have their handicap suspended and they will no longer be viewed as members of the club.
