City of Derry swimmers were in tremendous form when representing their various schools at the Irish Schools Swimming Championships held at the Aer Lingus pool, Dublin last weekend.
And 14 year-old, Daniel Doherty representing St. Joseph’s College, produced two remarkable swims in the 100 Breast and the 200 Individual Medley in the Junior section to take Gold in both.
The times Daniel achieved in the Breaststroke swim was a remarkable feat given the fact he swam faster than either the intermediate or senior boys in the same event.
Daniel is now in line to represent Ireland on the Irish Schools team against Wales, Scotland and England in the Home International to be held in March.
Lumen Christi College swimmers were also in fine form with Cormac Gillen, Pearse Bradley, Eoin Casey and Gavin Loughrey taking Gold and Silver in the Intermediate Medley and Freestyle relay team events respectively.
Gavin and Cormac were also in the individual medals, taking Bronze in the 400 Free and 100 Butterfly respectively.
The next outing for the swimmers will be in Larne for the Third qualifying meet of the season.
