Deborah Dominates at Buncrana

DEBORAH McElhinney emerged the victor in Evelyn Smith’s Lady Captain’s Prize at Buncrana last weekend having survived a break of tie with runner-up, Margaret McColgan.

In what proved a hugely successful day, the Lady Captain’s event was blessed with glorious weather conditions, the event played on a course in pristine condition.

In excess of 100 members of the Buncrana gents’ branch turned out to support the popular Lady Captain with the Ladies Branch and juveniles also taking full advantage of the superb conditions.

Results were - Lady Captain’s Day, Mrs. Evelyn Smith - 1, break of tie, Deborah McElhinney (17) 38 points; 2, Margaret McColgan (16) 38; gross, Geraldine Crossan (13) 26; 3, Michelle Duffy (33) 36; 4, Kathleen Burns (33) 35; 5, break of tie, Jean Fitzpatrick (22) 33; front nine, Betty McBride (18) 21; back nine, break of tie, Pascale Gallanagh (18) 17; best 36 handicapper, Margaret McAteer, 26; non qualifier, Helen White (24) 36; nearest the pin, Aoife Gallanagh; longest drive, Geraldine Crossan.

Twin juveniles, Aoife and Louise Gallanagh played on the day and they returned fine scores of 24 and 31 points respectively with Aoife winning the nearest the Pin prize!

Redcastle Ladies

Results from last Monday’s Confined Stroke at Redcastle - 1, Eve Funston (34) 72 nett; 2, Una Smyth (23) 73; 3, Helen Brady (31) 74.

The next competition is a Club Confined Stableford which will be staged on Monday next, July 15th with draw times at 10 a.m. and 5.30 p.m.

City of Derry Ladies

Results from the Gladys McCullagh Cup Medal, staged by City of Derry Ladies Branch on July 9th last - 1, Naoimh Quigg (4)74 nett; 2 Amy Chambers (5) 75; 3, Alison Elkin (11 )76.

The C.S.S. was 74.

Next week’s competition is the Kipling Cup Open Stableford.

Foyle Ladies

On Thursday last, July 4th. the Margaret Millar Trophy competition was won by Margaret Killen, returning a fine score of 70 nett in difficult windy conditions.

Full results were – 1, Margaret Killen 70 nett; 2, Anne Hamilton 72; 3, Denise Callan 75.

Recent 20’s winner, No. 247 was Lorna Thompson (17) 24 points, on tie-break.
