Durso Delighted Following Victory in Ballyliffin’s Lady President’s Prize

KERRY native, Marie Durso, emerged a very popular winner of Ann McNicholl’s Lady President’s Day at Ballyliffin on Saturday last.

In fact, it’s been over 15 years since Marie figured in one of the Inishowen club’s “majors,” but the 13 handicapper certainly pulled out all the stops on the Old Course last weekend.

Playing in horrendous weather conditions, the hardy Munster woman coped best with the wind and rain to return a stunning score of 43 points and her victory was rejoiced by all associated with the Ballyliffin club following the presentations.

Indeed, Marie is highly respected within the golf club circles and her charming ability to welcome youngsters and visitors into the sport of golf is legendary.

foyle Ladies

Foyle Ladies played for Mr. Captain, George Fitzpatrick’s Ladies Prizes on Thursday last and after enjoying the Captain’s kind hospitality, Alison Elkin emerged the winner returning the top score of 37 points.

Meanwhile on Thursday, June 20th Foyle Ladies played the Australian Spoons and Daisy Ferguson Qualifying competitions.

Agnes and Sheila McLaughlin qualified for the Australian Spoons having returned a score of 40 points. The District Final will take place in Greenacres Golf Club.

The runners-up were Denise Callan and Ann Fulton returning a score of 39 points to qualify for the Daisy Ferguson Trophy Final at Royal County Down.

The club’s 18 hole competition was won by Christine McCafferty (30) with 38 points. Recent 20’s winner No. 246 was Christine McCafferty (30) 25 pts.

The Ladies Branch will hold an Open competition on Thursday, July 11th during the club’s annual Open Week. Those wishing to book can do so online or by contacting Golf Reception on - 71-352222.

Lady Captain’s Day takes place today (Friday) with dinner at 8.00 p.m. followed by the Presentation of Prizes and dancing to follow.

Redcastle Ladies

Results from last Monday’s Bank of Ireland Cup competition, hosted by Redcastle Ladies Branch - 1, Una Smyth (26) 43 points; 2, Rosie Agnew (19) 35; 3, Eve Funston (34) 34.

Next Monday’s competition, July 8th, is a Club Confined Stroke event.

Draw times at 10.00 a.m., 5.00 p.m. and 5.30 p.m. sharp.

City of Derry Ladies

Unfortunately due to bad weather last Tuesday’s scheduled Captain’s Prize to the Ladies Branch was postponed to another date.

Next week’s competition at City of Derry will be the annual Gladys McCullagh Cup, Medal competition.
