DAVID Forbes survived a break of tie with Faughan Valley colleague and, indeed, last year’s winner, Paul Farren, to secure Mr. Cecil King’s Captain’s Prize at the Campsie club on Saturday last.

On a day in which the weather was not kind to those taking part, the inclement conditions failed to deter the membership from supporting the club’s leading official with in excess of 100 players competing.

Eight handicapper, Forbes, produced the goods to defeat Farren (21) thanks to a superior back nine after both players had carded highly respectable scores of 38 points.

Full results were - Mr. Cecil King’s Captain’s Prize - 1, break of tie, David Forbes (8) 38 points; 2, Paul Farren (21) 38; 3, Tony P Griffiths (12) 37; gross, Conor Peace (7) 78; front nine, Roy Cooke (16) 20; back nine, Martin McGlynn (16) 21; nearest the pin, Paul Farren; longest drive, Dan Hinds.

Tie-breaks proved to be the order of the day in last weekend’s Brennan’s Pharmacy Open Stableford at Buncrana, the wet conditions making scoring difficult.

The top score of the weekend was 38 points with in-form five handicapper, Stephen McHugh, claiming the top award having survived the first tie-break.

Stephen shot 18 points over the front nine and raised his game on the way home when adding a further 20 points to amass his winning total.

Full results were - 1, break of tie, Stephen McHugh (5) 38 points; 2, Matthew McNamee (24) 38; gross, Hugh Doherty (C) (8) 73 gross; 3, Paddy Semple (F) (17) 38; best day (Sat.), Sean McMenamin (16) 38; visitor, Michael Fitzpatrick (11), North-West, 38; back nine, break of tie, Jerome Farren (18) 20.
