Honest Jimmy misses out on top spot

JIMMY McFadden was applauded for his honesty and integrity during last weekend’s Captain’s Day Presentations (Mr. John McGinley) at North-West Golf Club.

Jimmy, himself a former club skipper, reduced his handicap by one shot before playing in last Saturday’s event having recorded a good score on another course prior to last weekend.

And that one shot reduction actually cost him Mr. John McGinley’s much sought after prize.

Jimmy would have returned 41 points off a 15 handicap but the reduction to 14 saw him register 40 points before he lost out on a break of tie to the 2013 Captain’s Prize winner, Damien Griffin (pictured recieving his prize from Mr John McGinley), who returned equal “nines” of 20 points.

Stephen MacLochlainn claimed third prize with 39 points but he too had his chance of claiming overall victory.

In fact, he required a par on the par five 18th for victory but drove his tee-shot into a fairway bunker and could only manage a bogey “6.”

In excess of 200 cards were taken out and with weather conditions perfect.

The course was in pristine condition with players rewarded for keeping their shots on the fairways, the heavy rough punishing wayward shots.

The “shot of the day” was recorded by Danny Curran who holed his tee-shot at the 163 yards par three 3rd.

His trusty seven iron guiding the ball into the centre of the cup for a memorable “ace.”
