Derry’s Stephen Morrison was crowned ISKA Irish light-middleweight champion at last Saturday’s Championship kickboxing show at St Columb’s Hall.

The PT’s Kickboxing Gym, Bishop’s Street member claimed his first Irish title following a points victory over Galway’s Jordan Ford.

And fellow PT’s kickboxer, Brian Houston claimed the ISKA Irish Junior middleweight title as his scheduled opponent withdrew from the contest due to illness.

Unfortunately, Noel Morrison was unable to make it a hat-trick of Irish title successes for the local club as he lost out to Sean Maher of Dragon’s Lair gym, Kilkenny in the ISKA Irish super-middleweight contest.

Featuring on the undercard, Eoghan McGlinchey of PT’s Bishop Street defeated Galway’s David Short with a third round technical stoppage and PT’s Carrigans member, Gareth Toland claimed the win against Killygordon’s Hugh Kelly.

There were also victories on the night for Elaine O’Donnell of Carrigans who defeated Rowena Walsh of Dragon’s Lair, Kilkenny on points; John McVeigh (PT’s Carrigans) who defeated Emmett Doherty (PT’s Rath Mor) after the referee stopped the contest in the third round when Doherty dislocated his shoulder.

Cathal Doherty of PT’s Rath Mor Warriors defeated Mickey Duffy (Dragon’s Lair, Kilkenny); Ciaran Reddin (PT’s Bishop’s Street) claimed the win against Galway’s Daniel Bradley.

However, there were defeats for Ciaran Loughran of PT’s Rath Mor Warriors who lost to Matthew Comerford of Dragons Lair by a majority decision and Damien Doherty (PT’s Carrigans) who lost on points to Danny Quinn of Dragons Lair.
