Just what the “Doc” ordered for consistent Ann on Lisfannon Links

ANN McCloskey may be a well known Derry general practitioner, but the high pressures of her day job appear to be having no effect on her ability on the golf course,

In fact, while the popular doctor emerged the winner of the recent North-West Lady Captain’s Outing to Druid’s Glen, she maintained that consistency to claim top honours in last Friday’s much sought after Lady President’s Prize at Lisfannon.

With the competition played in very difficult weather conditions, Ann coped best on the compact North-West fairways to return the top score of 33 points, three clear of the chasing pack.

Full results were - Mr. Una Grant’s President’s Prize - 1, Ann McCloskey (15) 33 points; 2, break of tie, Cecilia McCole (21) 30; 3, Anne O’Neill (22) 30; 4, Augusta Neff, 30; 5, Margaret McLaren, 30.

Category prizes - Augusta Neff, 30; Lorraine McGettigan, 30; Aileen MacManus, 25; first nine, Joanne Harkin; second nine, Stella O’Carolan; Committee Prize, Muireanna Friel.

Meanwhile, another lady in form at Lisfannon returned to the winner’s enclosure after Wednesday’s Calcutta Cup competition.

Ann Hume, who claimed the President’s Prize to the Ladies Branch again finished in top spot.

Results - 1, Ann Hume 73 nett; 2, break of tie, Joanne Harkin, 75; 3, Marie McLaughlin, 75.

The C.S.S. was 73.

Meanwhile, next week, Edel McBride will be visiting the North-West Clubhouse to share her fashion skills in knitting and crochet.

All members and their friends are welcome to come along at 7. 30 p.m. for what should be a very enjoyable evening.

City of Derry Ladies

Veronica Burke claimed the Chest, Heart & Stroke Open Stableford, sponsored by Eddie and Christine Mitchell, which took place at City of Derry on Tuesday last .

Veronica’s excellent score of 38 points gave her a five points cushion on the chasing pack.

Foyle Ladies

Foyle Ladies Branch travelled to Rosapenna for their annual ‘Weekend Away’ on Friday last and, as usual, the ladies enjoyed themselves immensely.

However, unfortunately last Saturday’s competition had to be suspended due to horrendous weather conditions but, thankfully, the weather on Sunday was perfect for golf allowing Anne Hamilton to return a fine winning score of 40 points.

Redcastle Ladies

The Winter League has now started and will run from Monday to Sunday

Due to the weather conditions, the Lady Captain’s Charity Open Day, had to be cancelled and it will be rescheduled.

Strabane Ladies

Congratulations to Strabane Ladies Tyrone & Fermanagh Betterball team, captained by Norma Brogan, who closed out their final with Castlehume on Sunday at the Co. Fermanagh club.

Leading by 16.5 to 3.5 from the home leg, the Strabane ladies wrapped the title up whentaking maximum points in the first match out to secure their first Club pennant in 12 years.

Last week’s Ladies event was the final one to be played over 18 holes this season with Alison Curry (22) picking up the Bertie Colhoun Cup with an excellent score of 40 points, the category went to Lisa Patton with (39 pts.) and to Donna Doherty who took category 2 with 37 pts.
