NORTH-West Golf Club’s rising star Kyle McCarron shot a superb 76 to win last Saturday’s North-West Scratch Cup in what can only be described as horrendous conditions on the Lisfannon Links.
A bitterly cold cross-wind combined with prolonged heavy showers set the Standard Scratch Score at three over par (73).
In fact, just 13 birdies were recorded and the only golfer to record a ‘2’ was Karol Friel with a birdie at the par three 13th.
Full results were - overall winner, Kyle McCarron, 76; Category 1, James Lindsay, 75; Category 2, Damien Griffin, 84 and Category 3, Hugh Doherty, 94.
Meanwhile, the annual Debonair Singles and Doubles Championship draws have been made and are now posted in the Golf Shop. All matches matches must be played by June 3rd.be played by 3rd June.
Meanwhile, in last Saturday’s Singles v. Par event, the Lisfannon club’s competition secretary, John O’Donnell (9) again displayed his matchplay ability when he battled back from a poor start to finish 1 up and claim his first victory of the season.
Two down after six holes, John used his low ball flight to great effect to keep it under the strong wind, which was blowing across the course. And dispite bogeys at the 12th and 13th, John parred 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 to finish in pole position just ahead of Karol Friel (18) who was 3 down after 13 holes, but a great finishing stretch brought him back to level and the runner-up spot.
The C.S.S. was 69.
