At the end of a marathon session of the Ulster Youth and Age Group Swimmin Championships held at the Lisburn Leisureplex, City of Derry members had amassed a total of 22 medals - 4 Gold, 7 Silver and 11 Bronze plus 2 new records.
The Derry team was well prepared for the event and produced a series of personal bests throughout the weekend.
The gold medals were all claimed by 14-years-old Daniel Doherty who was just untouchable in his age group.
Indeed, Daniel punches so far above his weight that he would not have been out of place in the 17 year old group. His performance in the 100 Free produced a remarkable time of 54.60 seconds a new record for this event.
And it was a case of more of the same in the 100 Breast where he set a new record for the event without reaching his personal best.
In the 200 Breast he finished a full 20 seconds ahead of the opposition.
Daniel achieved all this despite his training being interrupted for 10 days due to sickness.
In the same age group Jordan Brady-James also enjoyed an excellent meet coming home with Silver in the 400 and 200m free with a Bronze in the 100 and 200 Breast and 100m Free.
Return to form
Connell O’Brien showed a welcome return to form in the 17-year-old age group collecting a brace of Silver medals with very good performances in the 200 and 400 m. Free. He also got a Bronze in the 100 Fly.
Also in the same group Shane McClean got among the medals taking Bronze in the 100 and 200 Freestyle events.

Pearse also took a bronze in the 16-year-old 100 Breast event whilst Cormac Gillen reduced his heat time to takea silver medal in the 100 Fly in the 15-year-old age group.
His team-mates Gavin Loughrey and Darryl McGlinchey also produced superb swims in this age group and were unfortunate not to get among the medals.
In the 14-year-old Girls, Una Casey reduced her previous best time by 15 secs. in the 400m. Free to win a Silver medal whilst in the 12-year-old age group Mary Doherty claimed two Bronze medals in the 100 and 200 Breast and a Silver in the 100 Free.
