New Ladies Golf Coaching Programme

Foyle Golf Club’s professionals, Derek Morrison and Sean Young, have organised a special coaching scheme aimed at introducing ladies to the game of golf.

The coaching scheme will target ladies from the Derry and Donegal areas who are not members of a golf club and the coaching scheme will present an exciting opportunity to learn a new sport!

Ladies taking part in the training sessions will be given instruction over three lessons with professionals in the hope that they will eventually become interested in playing the game.

And those involved will be provided with golf clubs and golf balls to use at the Ballyarnett club’s driving range.

Indeed, all they need to participate is a pair of trainers and they will be asked to make a payment of £35 for the three sessions.

Golf training dates have been arranged for three Thursday nights at Foyle - on Thursday, July 28th, Thursday, August 4th and Thursday, August 11th with the coaching sessions to run from 7.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m.

Any lady interested in learning the rudiments of the game is urged to contact either Derek Morrison or Sean Young at the Foyle Golf Academy on 028-71-352222 or by e-mail to: for further details of the new scheme.

No previous experience is necessary and with imited places available, entry will be allocated on a first come basis. In fact, why not sign up with a friend or group of friends?

It is envisaged that the progress of those taking part will be monitored over the coming months when it is hoped to hold nine and 18 hole competitions for the training group.

Lady Captain’s Day

North-West’s efficient and popular Lady Captain, Mary McGeough, will stage her Captain’s prize at Lisfannon this Saturday.

And with a full-timesheet and, hopefully, a change in the current weather conditions, those taking part will enjoy a memorable day.

On the day the Lady Captain has also included a competition for gents and full details have been posted in the Golf Club.
