North-West Winter League Qualifying Reduced to Four Rounds From Six

REDUCING the qualifying rounds in the annual Winter League from nine weeks to six appears to have been popular with the membership of North-West.

Those taking part in the John O’Donnell sponsored event will see four of the six cards counting towards qualification for the matchplay stages.

And with the tight Lisfannon Links in superb condition, scoring has been high over the opening two weeks.

Eddie J. Grant and Andy McDermott led the way in the opening round when returning the top score of 44 points with the McLaughlin brothers, Gary and Aidan, relegating former Captain, Eugene O’Connell and Plunkett Duffy into third spot on a tie-break after both pairs recorded scores of 41 points to take the minor placings.

In round two last weekend, which was also blessed with glorious sunshine, the father and son partnership of Francis and Patrick Duffy powered their way to victory with a sensational score of 46 points.

Their scorecard included one birdie (17th) 16 pars and one bogey at the 10th.

In second spot was North-West Vice-Captain Bosco Reid and Jimmy McGee who return another superb score of 45 points.

The Winter League continues this Sunday, October 20th, with the traditional Christmas Fayre to be played tomorrow (Saturday).

Members can also take out cards to qualify for the annual Christmas Hamper.
