P. J. McGee (13) is probably the longest hitter at City of Derry Golf Club, but on Saturday last he also rediscovered his ‘short game’ to claim the annual City of Derry Building Society Open.
A steady 18 points on the front nine was the springboard for a superb 23 points on the back nine and a tie breaking win over Eugene Hillick (22), his 41 points coming from nines of 20 and 21 points respectively.
Third place went to Colin Jeffrey (6) with 40 points courtesy of a brilliant level par back nine for 22 points giving him the decision on a count back.
Jayson McIntyre (3) was the best of the low men with 35 gross points.
No play was possible on Thursday last due to inclement weather but the Thursday Opens will continue throughout the season.
