GREENCASTLE Community Centre staged a high successful Golf Classic at the local club on Saturday last and the Inishowen course proved it’s usual stiff test.
With the format of two scores to count at holes one to seventeen and three scores required at the par three 18th, the scoring was tightly bunched.
Indeed, two teams tied at the top with 92 points each, and the better back nine score gave the quartet of Des Henry (10), Brian Doherty (9), John McElhinney (22) and Eddie Rigney (19) the top prize.
The runners-up were Ryan McLaughlin (10), Ciaran McLaughlin (12), Gavin McLaughlin (15) and Seamus McLaughlin (17) while the team in third spot was made up of Russell Davidson (14), Barry Devine (22), Liam Clarke (20) and Eddie McIntyre (7) with a total of 90 points.
They had a two points advantage over J. P. O’Doherty (13), Conor McCourt (22), Ian Cavanagh (12) and Hugh O’Donnell (25) with 88 points.
The remaining prizes went to Sean Doherty (20), Pat McLaughlin (25), Kevin Lake (14) and David Robb (15) (fifth place), James McCauley (7), Seamus Doherty (14), Joe Doherty (11) and Shaun Gillespie (14) (sixth place).
The nearest the pin for ladies, played at the 15th hole was won by Heather Mitchell, and the gents’ prize at the last hole went to Denis Canavan.
The longest drive prizes were won by Susan McNeery and Jim Monagle.
The Greencastle Community Centre extends sincere thanks to all of the participants and, in particular, the sponsors for their help in making the event a success.
