Wolfe plays round of lifetime in Strabane

Nicky Wolfe (10) was the man celebrating in Strabane on Saturday after producing the round of a lifetime to capture Dr. Ciaran Kelly’s Captains Prize

The 10 handicapper had four shots to spare on his nearest rival, having posted a fantastic round of 62 nett.

Nicky’s round equated to three over par which was also the joint best gross score of the day.

The runner-up, after a very close break of tie concerning no fewer than five golfers who all returned scores of 66 nett, was Eamon McGlinchey (15) with Kevin Connolly (10) in third place. Foncie McNally (14) was another of the players with a nett 66 and he took fourth place just ahead of John Duddy (16) in fifth.

The Category One prize was won by Declan McDonnell (8) with a 67 nett; Cat. Two went to Danny Duffy (13) 66 nett and Cat. Three was claimed by George McCay (20) with a 68 nett.

The gross prize was claimed by Darren Crawford (4) with a 72 while the visitors’ prize went to James McFadden (13) with 37 pts. Paddy O’Kane won the Captain’s Guest Prize with 34 pts.

Dr. Ciaran Kelly extended his thanks to the club’s Council, staff and the green keepers for all their hard work throughout his year to date and he paid special thanks to the membership for turning up in great numbers and showing their support which had added to a brilliant year for himself and his family.

The Captain also wished the Lady Captain, Annette Patton, and all the Lady members, every success for Lady Captain’s Day which takes place tomorrow (Saturday), July 6th. Saturday 6th July.

There was also an excellent turnout for last week’s Captain’s Fourball Better Ball Stableford which resulted - 1, Keith Patterson & Billy Doherty, 48 pts.; 2, Mickey Kelly & Gary King, 44; 3, Dermott Corry & John McMenamin, 44; gross, Francie Devine & Conor Sharkey.

This Sunday’s competition is the Frylite Open Team Classic.
