OLYMPIC TRIATHLON: Alieen Reid digs deep to finish 21st in Rio

Aileen Reid finished in 21st place at the Olympic Games triathlon with an impressive performance on Saturday in Rio.

The Londonderry woman was 32nd following the swim and had drifted out to 36th at the end of the bike stage.

But Reid dug deep and moved through the field in the 10k run as she gained 15 places to finish just under five minutes behind winner USA’s Gwen Jorgensen.

Defending champion Nicola Sprig of Switzerland finished second and Vicky Holland outsprinted fellow Briton Non Stanford in a thrilling finish to clinch the bronze medal.
