Daryl Gurney says there’s more to come as he reaches last eight
It was a game that had everything including Gurney missing D9 for a nine-dart finish and six attempts at double to close the game out in a nervy finish.
Gurney will face the winner of the clash between Gerwyn Price and Mervyn King on New Year’s Day.

Hide AdDespite the victory Gurney still believes he can play better.
“I want to win and I want to play well and on my own accountability there I thought I was terrible,” said Gurney.
“I was very lucky in the first set and the first leg Vincent missed six darts and I took out 125, if I hadn’t have took that out in all honesty I probably would have lost that set and then you never know how it is going to turn out.
“If I’d took out that 100 in the second set I could have won 4-0 and walked off not having played well but done enough.

Hide Ad“I need to improve I was putting myself under so much pressure, it was like the old Daryl Gurney had come back I was going perfect in the treble 20 then pulling it and I was scolding myself.
“There are fine lines I have played poor, I’m not burning myself before I play, I put myself under so much pressure it was average but I thought if I can get through this game I t could chance my whole year.”
Both players had double trouble in the second set but van der Voort edged it 3-2 to level the match.
Gurney had eight perfect darts in at the start of the third set but came inside the D12 for the nine darter however he hit it on his next visit and went on to take the set 3-1.

Hide AdGurney also took the fourth set 3-1 to open up a two set cushion but the Dutchman found his scoring and doubling to take the fifth set 3-0.
Superchin established a 2-1 lead in the sixth, van der Voort scored 60 with his first two visits to the board in leg four allowing Superchin to take control but he wasted six darts to clinch the victory and was punished as the Dutchman hit D9 to force a deciding leg.
Van der Voort missed the bull for a 135 to force a final set before Gurney hit D16 at the first time of asking.
