Sadness has been expressed following the death of one of the leading figures in local athletics.
Packy Deehan was well known in athletics circles and was chairman of Foyle Valley AC.
Minister for the Environment, Mark H Durkan, himself a keen runner told of his sorrow after the detah.
He said: ““It was with great shock and sadness that I learned of the death of Packy Deehan, chairman of Foyle Valley AC.
“Packy was a positive and popular character in Derry and anywhere else his running took him. He provided motivation and inspiration to many. The road always seemed shorter with Packy running by your side.
“He will be sadly and sorely missed not only by his own family, who are in our thoughts and prayers, but by Derry’s growing running family and particularly members of Foyle Valley, his beloved club.”
