Hallowe’en weekend at Greencastle Golf Club featured some spectacular scoring with Barry Hegarty (20) producing his own fireworks display on Saturday.

Barry’s two nines of 23 points, a birdie at the par five Lynch’s and a hole-in-one at Bovairds gave him a victory by five clear points over the rest of the field.

Runner-up Paul McCole (7) shot 1 over par on each nine for a brilliant gross score of 71 with birdies at Port A Vela and the Plateau.

The consistent Paul Wallace (4) was round in one over par 70 for third place, scoring birdies on Lynch’s and the Plateau.

Full results were: Saturday, October 31st – 1, Barry Hegarty (20) 46; 2, Paul McCole (7) 41; 3, Paul Wallace (4) 38; Gross, Jason McLaughlin (5) 28; 1st 9, Stephen Moore (20) 23; 2nd 9, Paul Foley (22) 21.

If single figure handicappers acquitted themselves well on Saturday, they really called the shots on Sunday, filling the top four places.

Leading the way on Sunday was Jason McLaughlin (5) who had four birdies on the way to a one over par round of 70 and 40 points. Runner-up Tommy McBride (6) showed a welcome return to form with 39 points following a minor crisis of confidence in recent weeks. Eddie McIntyre (9) took third place also with 39 points while Paul Wallace (4) had to settle for the Gross prize with 33 points.

Frank Faulkner (25)) landed a blow for the higher handicappers with 21 points on the front nine and Hilary Donnelly (16) took the back nine prize with 22 points.

The usual Ladies and Gents Open Stableford will be held on Saturday followed by a Gents Open Stableford on Sunday next.

The Christmas Hamper is scheduled for the weekend of November 28th and 29th.

Greencastle members are reminded that the AGM will be held on Saturday, December 12th and motions for discussion should be with the Hon. Secretary by Thursday, November 12th.
