Poor first half costs Dolan's as Glack impress
Premier Electrics Junior Football Championship
Glack 3-16, Dolans 4-09
Sean Dolan’s paid the price for a poor first half against a skilful and composed Glack team who will be dangerous outsiders for this Championship title if they can tightened up their defence.
Glack held a 12-point lead at half time but at one stage in the second half the game was in the balance with just two points between the teams and eight minutes left. Then, Derry minor panellist Martin McGonigle cut through Dolan’s for his third goal in an outstanding performance which saw him score 3-02 from play.
Dolans, with coach Geoffrey McGonigle back along the sideline, never gave themselves a chance and Glack’s running game caused huge problems for the city men. A first half brace from McGonigle left Glack with a commanding 2-9 to 0-3 lead and while Dolan’s improved, they were always chasing the game.
Kevin Nixon was on target for Dolan’s early in the second half and there were worries when Conor McCloskey hit the net to leave the score 2-11 to 2-6. Nixon hit the third Dolan’s goal to leave just two points between the teams before McGonigle eased the nerves for the deserving winners.
