The Channel 4 comedy has been given the nod in the Scripted Comedy category.

They have been nominated alongside Catastrophe, Fleabag and Stath Lets Flats.

Following the news, which was confirmed yesterday, the cast of the show, as well as writer Lisa McGee, took to social media to share their joy.

Lisa McGee tweeted she was ‘hugely honoured’ and thanked the academy for the nomination. Saoirse Monica Jackspon, who plays Erin in the show, also tweeted her thanks, as did Jamie Lee O’Donnell, who plays Michelle. Nicola Coughlan, who is Claire in the show said: “Not every day you wake up to a BAFTA nomination, is it? So proud of the whole Derry Girls fam, it means so much thank you.”

The winners will be revealed on Friday, July 31. Other nominees this year include The Crown and Gentleman Jack for Drama Series, Strictly Come Dancing and The Voice UK for Entertainment Programme, and Callum Turner, Jared Harris, Stephen Graham and Takehiro Hira for Leading Actor.
