In just a few weeks’ time the centrepiece to City of Culture 2013 will hit the streets for two remarkable days, 7th and 8th June 2013, with The Return of Colmcille.

There is still time to take part in this once in a lifetime event as organisers are seeking performers for Welcome to ColmVille which will take place on Saturday 8th June. If you have considered taking part in any cultural event this year and not done so yet, this is your chance to get involved.

All performers will be issued with a rehearsal schedule, where they will be fitted for their costumes, have a chance to get a look behind the scenes, and work with world-class directors.

Good times are guaranteed!

Performances will take place at a number of sites: Ebrington Square, Foyle Valley Railway Museum, Long Tower Church, St Columb’s Cathedral, Pump Street, The Gasyard and Guildhall Square from 2.30pm to 5pm on Saturday 8th June.

Said one of the team; “We are calling on local people of all ages - above 16 years - and all levels of performance experience. Performers will use music, movement and the spoken word to tell the stories of the city. Performers will be required for a maximum of two rehearsals per week as listed below.

Choose a ColmVille group:

GROUP 1: HIGH FLYING BIRDS: Monday 6.00pm - 9.00pm & Saturday 11.00am - 1.30pm; downstairs at The Glassworks

Those who can Irish, Highland, or Ceilidh dance are called on to help perform in this scene. You don’t have to be an ex-shirt factory worker but we do need lots of women to create an authentic representation of this unique workforce in the city.

GROUP 2: COLMCILLE’S CATWALK: Tuesday 6.00pm - 9.00pm & Sunday 2.00pm - 5.00pm; downstairs at The Glassworks.

Want to learn to dance Beyonce style? This is your chance. Organisers need females to work with our choreographers to learn all the moves to ‘Single Ladies’ and then strut your stuff. Non-dancers also needed to pout and pose.

GROUP 3: MISSION POSSIBLE: Wednesday 6.00pm - 9.00pm & Saturday 2.00pm - 5.00pm; downstairs at The Glassworks.

Colmcille was a man with a mission who changed lives. Organisers need Derry people to portray the efforts of those who have made the world a better place.

GROUP 4: POP-UPS: Thursday 6.00pm - 9.00pm & Sunday 11.00am - 1.30pm; downstairs at The Glassworks

Along the ColmVille route we need characters to perform pop-up pieces based on stories and characters from the city.

GROUP 5: OCEAN PARADE: Thursday 6.00pm - 9.00pm; upstairs at The Glassworks and Saturday & Sunday 11.30am - 5.30pm; at The Gasyard. Men and women are being sought to re-enact German U-Boat Commanders, Spanish Armada, Vikings and all things nautical. No previous performance experience necessary.

Those putting the event together will help to get you placed in a role that is right for you, whether that is pushing a float or being in a choreographed dance routine, and everything in between.

The rehearsal schedule may change slightly each week so when you register you will be kept up-to-date with the full rehearsal schedule for the next three weeks.
