One of the UK’s most popular Instagramers has been enlisted to help promote Derry as a tourist destination.

Naomi Atkinson, who has more than 167,000 followers on Instagram - an online photo-sharing, video-sharing and social networking service - has snapped the city during a trip organised by Tourism Ireland.

Vanessa Markey, Tourism Ireland’s head of Great Britain, said social media was a vital tourism promotion tool.

““With over 167,000 followers, Naomi is one the most popular Instagramers in GB and we are delighted she agreed to travel to Northern Ireland, providing her followers with real-time visual images of what a great place it is for a holiday.

“Social media is a hugely important element of our promotional programme and Tourism Ireland has been working hard to maximise the impact of social media, to highlight Northern Ireland and inspire potential holidaymakers around Great Britain to come and visit.”

Armed with her camera and smartphone and following an itinerary devised by the Northern Ireland Tourist Board, Naomi spent time in Derry, where she captured lots of great images of the city during a walk along the historic Walls and a visit to the Tower Museum.

She also took lots of pictures of the Peace Bridge Race – a point-to-point race for sailing dinghies on the River Foyle.

Naomi’s images can be seen on and on Tourism Ireland’s Facebook.
