Derry Mayor Brenda Stevenson is encouraging people to view the short-listed entries in the local Craft Awards 2015 which go on public display today.
Derry City Council is exhibiting the short-listed entries to enable the public to view the impressive collection of work by local crafters ahead of its gala Craft Awards and Fashion Show taking place in the Guildhall on Friday, February 27, as part of Enterprise Week.

The short-listed entries will be on display in ‘The Social’ Gallery at 35 Shipquay Street from Friday, February 20, as well as a selection of the Fashion Show collection at the Fashion and Textile Design Centre next door at 33 Shipquay Street from February 23 to 26.
The Craft Awards exhibition will take place as follows:- Friday February 20 (12pm to 5pm); Saturday, February 21 (12pm to 5pm); Sunday, February 22 (1pm to 5pm); Tuesday, February 24 (12pm to 5pm); Wednesday, February 25 (12pm to 5pm); and Thursday, February 26 (12pm to 4pm).
The public are asked to vote for their favourite craft item either at the exhibition venue or on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/fashionanddesignhub.
Encouraging people to come along to the exhibition over the next week, Mayor Stevenson said: “This is a great opportunity to recognize and celebrate the individual skills of our highly creative and innovative crafters and makers. Having already viewed the short-listed entries myself, I am hugely impressed by the talent of our local craft sector and looking forward to a fantastic awards ceremony and the contemporary fashion show in the Guildhall on February 27.”
Alan Kane, Chief Executive of Craft NI and a member of the judging panel, also congratulated the organisers for the “superb range and very high quality of entries” received for the competition, adding: “Every category is strongly represented and it is good to see high quality entries from relatively new makers. The competition at this standard is a great tribute to all the hard work put in by the Craft Development Programme in Derry over the past year.”
The Craft Awards gala event is already sold out, but limited tickets are still available for balcony seats for the fashion show at 9pm.
