BBC Radio One DJ Jameela Jamil has described the Big Weekend in Derry as “the best gig she has ever played” - despite it taking her more than 14 hours to get here.
The glamourous presenter - who hosts the station’s flagship chart show - was one of the celebs and presenters stuck at Heathrow airport yesterday when an emergency landing by a plane caused major delays.
Speaking to the ‘Journal’ at Ebrington this afternoon just after finishing a DJ set, Jameela said the journey was “well worth it”.
“It took 14 hours, planes, trains and automobiles - and we went via Letterkenny - but it was still worth it,” she said.
“The crowd here is amazing, there is such a buzz about the place. It is easily the best gig I have ever played.”
The DJ revealed she had another mishap just as she took to the main stage today. “I fell just as I came on stage - I was covered in dirt - and all my vinyls and CDs went everywhere and a few were scratched, but it made for an original mix!”
Jameela will be playing another set tomorrow when she will also be introducing Little Mix.
