Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Derry got off to a flying start when singer Robbie Williams appeared on stage with rapper Dizzie Rascal this evening.
It had been widely rumoured that the singer would be one of the big surprises of the weekend, and there were even suggestions that he’d been spotted in Foyleside shopping centre earlier today!
Williams shot to fame with Take That in the 1990s and went on to become one of the most successful British solo acts of all time. He entered the Guinness Book of Records for selling 1.6million tickets for a tour in a single day.
His appearance has ensured a high-profile start for the Big Weekend here. About 40,000 people are expected to attend over the three days - and more surprises could well be on the way, adding to an already star-studded programme.
