Chart-topping County Down band Snow Patrol have donated £20,000 to the Western Health and Social Care Trust (Western Trust) Cancer Services, Sperrin Suite based at Altnagelvin Hospital.

The band members Gary Lightbody, Jonathan Quinn, Nathan Connolly, Tom Simpson, Paul Wilson and Johnny McDaid said the donation came following two sold out dates for their acoustic Christmas show held at the Waterfront Hall, Belfast at Christmas.

Not only did the band agree to donate all money but to double it! A total of £30,000 was generated through ticket sales and another £30,000 was matched by the band to be donated between a number of charities throughout Northern Ireland.

Caroline Oates, Western Trust Chemotherapy Unit Manager expressed her delight: “Being such a big fan of the band I was astounded when I received the call from Snow Patrol’s Management Team explaining, ‘we are delighted to say that Snow Patrol will be donating £20,000 to the Western Trust Chemotherapy Unit’.”

“Their generosity has been totally overwhelming and I would personally like to thank them as their donation will make a huge impact in providing comforts for patients undergoing treatment in the Chemotherapy Unit at Altnagelvin Hospital.”
