Derry’s Playhouse are beginning City of Culture celebrations early with their biggest prize ever - a Golden Ticket entitling the lucky winner to FREE entry to any event in their Spring 2013 programme.

The revamped September to December brochure is out now, with a line-up that includes the eagerly awaited Field Day production directed by and starring Stephen Rea, musician Damien Dempsey and the return of the ever popular Big Tickle Comedy Festival!

A new Playhouse production of Brendan Beehan’s Borstal Boy, Fringe Benefit’s production of Charles Dickens’ Nichols Nickleby, and a brand new production by Big Telly Theatre Company are just some of the other exciting theatre events to follow at the award winning theatre.

Audiences can then take their pick of opera, ghost stories, jazz and even more comedy throughout the season, as well several local theatre companies, including Marvel Arts Theatre Company, Pettigo based Borderline Players, and Strabane’s PuddleAlley Players.

Tickets for the highly anticipated Field Day production, ‘Farewell’ by Clare Dwyer-Hogg, are also on sale. Rea will direct and perform in the production in December.

“What a season, and what a year we have ahead!” Niall McCaughan at The Playhouse said. “We have productions that will challenge your expectations, make you laugh, excite and bewilder! All in a great mix of familiar and new titles, local talent and international names. This is all just a taste of what’s ahead for 2013, when one lucky person can win unlimited theatre at The Playhouse for the first season of our magical city of culture year!

“So pick up a brochure today, and send your full name and email address to, sign up via our website, or call in to our Box Office before Monday, December 3, 2012 for your chance to win a Golden Ticket - giving one lucky winner a season of free theatre at The Playhouse in Spring 2013!”
