Young musos urged to start ‘messin with the music’

Derry’s aspiring rock and pop stars are being encouraged to get involved with a unique workshop which aims to empower young people.

Organised by the Greater Shantallow Community Arts (GSCA) group, ‘Messin’ with the Music’ will run from January 31 to February 3 and is aimed at 14-17 year olds who have a love of music and a desire to write and perform.

Those who take part in the workshop will then perform on the main stage at the ARC (Art Reaching Communities) Centre on February 4.

“Come and get jamming whether you play an instrument or not and remember it’s totally free,” a GSCA spokeswoman says.

The workshops will be led by Denis McLaughlin, teacher at Link Music; Caolan McLaughlin, a freelance musician who has toured with Bronagh Gallagher and Paul Casey; and Tommy McAleer who is an experienced multi-instrumentalist.

If you have any queries or would like an application form, email: or or give Denis a call/text on 0(044)7969543628 leaving your email address.
