‘The Ferryman’ centres on a farming family called the Carneys who live in rural Derry during the height of the Troubles.

The Carney family are focused on the harvest when a visitor arrives at the farm bringing news of the 1981 hunger strike in which 10 men, including two from Derry city (Patsy O’Hara and Michael Devine), starved themselves to death.

Presented with a difficult choice, the Carney family must decide to take up the fight or concentrate on the harvest.

‘The Ferryman’ will open at Royal Court Theatre in London on April 24, 2017.
