240 to face Derry’s Total Wipeout

Over 200 local people have signed up to take on a gargantuan obstacle course as Total Wipeout comes to Derry this summer.

It is hoped that up to £20,000 will be raised for local charity Foyle Search and Rescue as a total of 24 teams will take part in the three day, high octane event on the grounds of the Gasyard Centre on July 17, 18 and 19.

All team spots have now been snapped up and eight teams of ten will, over each of the three days, pit their skills against each other on giant bouncing balls, Gladiators-style inflatables, demolition ball, spinning knockout bar, stepping stones and foam pits to be crowned the Wipeout Kings and Queens 2015.

Among those taking part are teams from local bars and takeaways, fitness clubs, a youth club, a hotel, a car wash, a call centre and a hospital.

Each of the local team participants have been tasked with raising £100 in advance of the event.

Total Wipeout organiser and owner of Legenderry Bouncy Castles Paul Burke said all proceeds from the non-profit event will go to the Derry charity after running costs.

“Eight teams will go through each day,” he said. “It’s a 100 foot obstacle course.

“There will be 15 obstacles to go through and they will spend 30 to 40 minutes on each obstacle. They are going to be on the go all day.

“I would appeal to everyone to come along. There’s no entry fee. We’re hoping there will be a bucket passed around for donations.

“Overall we are hoping to raise £15,000 to £20,000 from this event.”

The gates will open from 9am to 4pm each day, and Mr Burke said there will be a Fun Day happening each day alongside the main event, with slides and bouncy castles for kids as well as refreshments.
