Derry songwriter Patrick McDonagh is planning to stage a homecoming gig following a year in which his career has taken a leap forward.
The 20-year-old from the Buncrana Road area- who is gaining a lot of attention through his recent recordings - will be performing at Bennigan’s Bar in Derry on August 23 at 8pm, with his guitarist Tom Hawk from his band flying over to join him on stage.
The gig caps a year which has seen Patrick secure a place at the prestigious BIMM Music College in Manchester, perform gigs with his own band and hone his skills with the help of former Radio One DJ and mentor Briggy Smale.
Patrick is now planning a UK tour in early 2017, which will be preceded by the release of two singles. He has also been included on a new compilation album featuring the work of a few of the hundreds of students at BIMM.
He said: “The past year has been great, and I’ve benefited greatly from it, not just as a songwriter but as a performer. I am a lot more comfortable now performing my own songs. My voice has practically doubled in range.”
Patrick’s own musical tastes range from Carole King and Alanis Morissette to Tori Kelly. He has also been a long standing fan and champion of singer Adele since her pre-fame days.: “I waited ten years to see her and finally saw her live- I’ve been a fan of hers since she was on MySpace at 16. She is amazing,” he said.
