A Derry band are in with a chance of giving their career a massive step up by appearing on the cover of Ireland’s best known music magazine.

The Clameens have been compared to the Undertones and have already appeared on RTE and BBC television as well as supporting high profile acts like Pete Doherty and Professor Green and have a string of dates pencilled in for the UK in 2015.

As part of ‘The Big Break Competition’, Hot Press is giving an act their ‘Big Break’ by putting them on the cover of the magazine and the Derry band have made it onto a shortlist out of thousands of hopefuls in the competition.

A Hot Press spokesperson said: “After the huge success of last year’s Big Break competition, which served as a brilliant showcase of the shining talent on display across this isle, Hot Press and Alcatel Onetouch once again sent out a call for the finest rising artists this country has to offer.

“The response has been overwhelming, as enterprising young bands and solo acts alike entered in their thousands, covering every imaginable genre and making the task of the judging panel very tricky indeed. After much deliberation, fist fights, make-ups and coffee runs, the judges managed to whittle the entries down a golden shortlist of 35 acts to remain in the race, including Derry band The Clameens.

“And now, the music-loving public can have their say, by voting to help decide the winner – so it’s time for Derry to get behind their local act! This is a vital stage in the process of selecting the winner and people can vote today at where a track from each shortlisted artists is available to listen to and vote for your favourite.”

The Clameens are a teen quartet and were selected as one of MTV’s unsigned bands of 2014. Music fans can cast their votes today at
